The Masks Have Fallen

The National Remembrance Institute (IPN) has recently released additional documents. Among them there were many letters addressed to General Kiszczak. It looks like the masks have fallen. A large group of presently well-known and respectable personalities were writing praising letters to the General.

Beata Tyszkiewicz, Andrzej Seweryn, Daniel Passent, Andrzej Celiński, Agnieszka Osiecka; these are only few of the admirers of the former Minister of Interior Affairs. One of them, Leszek Czarnecki, pledged to cooperate with the Polish communist intelligence.

Daniel Passent – the guru of channel TVN 24 – wrote to Kiszczak in 1984 and assured about his support and thought. It happened only 10 days after the police assassination of Blessed Father Jerzy Popiełuszko. In the letter he describes the opposition as “troublemakers”:

Dear General, in these difficult times for the country and for Yourself, I dare to write a few words to you to provide proof of my thoughts and support for the policy you represent. (…) If the troublemakers from the opposition are able to rouse people to fight our socialist authorities, then the types of Grzegorz Piotrowski (father Popiełuszko murderer) again would feel indispensable, and we couldn’t fight them, as it is difficult to fight on two fronts (although such situation has certain advantages). (…) I wish to assure you of my support and thoughts.”

Andrzej Celiński also assured the General of his respect and admiration for his courage.

Andrzej Seweryn warmly thanked Kiszczak for the correspondence he received and assured him of his ‘respect’.

Beata Tyszkiewicz thanked the General for the protection of her house and invited him for a visit.

But not everyone was so obsequious to the Communist government. A statement signed by Jarosław Kaczyński was also released. It reads as follows:

I refuse to sign the statement submitted to me because of its adverse moral character. Furthermore I wanted to state that there is no legal basis for requiring citizens of PRL (Communist Poland) to sign such a declaration.”

As we can see in communist Poland there were brave people who believed it was possible to refuse bland praises for the General, but instead acted in an honorable manner.

Now, let’s take a look who currently defends Lech Wałęsa? KOD (the so called “Defenders of Democracy”), Celiński, Passent etc …

The masks have fallen, and truly we see everything now.
