Poland as a “testing ground”

Poland as a “testing ground”

Poignant conclusions of the “Freedom Shield Committee” after a visit to Warsaw

The political, social, and economic situation in Poland has deteriorated profoundly in this very short period, according to the website of the Patriots for Europe (PfE) group, whose MEP Hermann Tertsch led the “Freedom Shield Committee” delegation on a study mission to Warsaw last week.

The group of MEPs that looked into the actions of the Polish government drew alarming conclusions. According to these politicians, Brussels will want to transfer the “Tusk model” to other EU countries.

On July 15-17, a delegation of European patriotic politicians, called the “Freedom Shield Committee,” led a research mission to Warsaw.

“Through this visit and numerous meetings with judges, prosecutors, lawyers, journalists, historians, conservative associations and affected individuals, they were able to gain an in-depth understanding of the continuing and serious violations of human rights and the rule of law committed by the Tusk government”, according to the website of the group Patriots for Europe (PfE), whose MEP Hermann Tertsch led the delegation.

According to European Conservative, the politicians met with, among others, attorney Michal Skwarzyński, the lawyer for the priest, who, as the portal puts it, “was held in prison for seven months in conditions that qualify as torture.” In turn, from photos posted online, we learn that representatives of the Ordo Iuris Institute, as well as President of the Constitutional Court Bogdan Święczkowski, among others, spoke with the delegation.

The dire situation in Poland

The conclusions of the Freedom Shield Committee from its visit to Warsaw are alarming. Among other things, we read that:

  • The judiciary is under constant and unjustified attack by Justice Minister Adam Bodnar and the government of which he is a part.
  • Tusk’s administration is sabotaging this authority by fueling legal uncertainty and pursuing a deliberate strategy of creating institutional chaos in order to influence the judicial system.
  • The rulings of the Constitutional Tribunal are being ignored at all levels, which translates into a direct attack on the guarantors of the sacred, fundamental rights and freedoms of the Polish people.

The politicians also noted that “the executive branch in Poland currently appears determined to achieve total control over the media, contrary to the constitution, as dark communist regimes did in the past.”

“Sabotaging” President-elect Nawrocki’s swearing-in

Politicians also discussed the situation surrounding the election of Karol Nawrocki as president of Poland, which they described as “a blow to Tusk’s administration.” They emphasize that the prime minister is still looking for “ways to sabotage the inauguration ceremony scheduled for August 6th and wants to avoid his own political knockout.”

“This campaign aims to unconstitutionally question the presidential election procedure. It damages Poland’s image both domestically and internationally, seriously threatening the peaceful transfer of power to the new president,” according to the Freedom Shield Committee.

Poland as a “testing ground”

According to the delegation, Poland “has become a laboratory for authoritarian measures supported by Brussels.” In a comment for European Conservative, Hungarian EU Commissioner Boglárka Bólya stated that the methods used by the Polish government could be tried out in other parts of Europe.

Bólya notes that while “Tusk’s government is dismantling the rule of law in the name of the rule of law,” Brussels remains silent. “There are no threats of sanctions or other tools that were readily used against the previous conservative government in Poland and are still being used against Hungary. This double standard of the EU is visible to everyone. “Poland has become a testing ground for a dangerous political experiment aimed at definitively suppressing the voices of supporters of sovereignty,” she says.

“There is no doubt that Brussels intends to export this ‘Tusk model’ to other member states, including Hungary,” the politician warns.

In her opinion, “if this dangerous political experiment continues unopposed, the future of sovereign member states in Europe will be threatened, and with it the rights of nations and citizens to decide their own democratic future.”
