On Tuesday, Poland’s deputy prime minister and minister of culture and national heritage, prof. Piotr Glinski, inaugurated The Year of Henryk Sienkiewicz in the late writer’s mansion in Oblegorek (Swietokrzyskie region). 2016 marks the 170th birthday anniversary, and the 100th anniversary of death of the Polish Nobel prize winner.
– Let’s read, lets discover Sienkiewicz again and again, let’s not be seduced by the light form and fascinating story line only. Let us reach deeper. I encourage all Polish people to read. – pleaded the deputy prime minister during the solemn inauguration.
The ceremony took place in writer’s mansion, which was presented to him by the people of Poland in 1900.
During the meeting with the MPs, municipal politicians, and journalists, held in the mansion’s parlor, right next to the office where the writer created his novel “In Desert and Wilderness’, the deputy prime minister appealed to popularize Sienkiewicz’s literary works, which are just as valid in our times.
